OU/AU/CRAU/OC: OU
Age: 18, appears to be 7
World Information: The world of Detective Conan is more or less equivalent to the real world, excepting that amateur detectives seem more common, more respected, and able to garner more fame. Some locations within it are fictitious or changed but nothing major. The biggest departure from reality is a drug developed by Ai that can kill without a trace, and in rare cases cause cellular degeneration which results in turning an adult back into a kid.
Personal History: As Shiho Miyano and as Ai Haibara
Personality:
Ever since turning back into a child, the main impression that Ai gives people is that she's extremely mature for her age. Naturally, seeing as how she's actually 18 but in the body of a 7-year-old, this is understandable. But there's more to it than even that. Even before reverting her age with Apoptoxin 4869, Ai (then known as Shiho) was an antisocial woman who would be called mature. She worked as a biochemist, kept to herself, and lived alone - a far cry from an average high schooler or early college student. Sonoko, an actual high schooler, perhaps summarized Ai best: "she feels like an unsociable woman who was turned into a kid."
Assisting that image, perhaps, is the fact that Ai is simply incredibly smart, far more than most adults and certainly more than a 7-year-old should be. She'd worked for the Black Organization as a biochemist since she was 13 years old, and was the developer of Apoptoxin 4869, the drug which would turn both Shinichi Kudo and Shiho herself into children. And even as Ai, without the massive funding and equipment of the Black Organization and working on limited information, she was able to develop a temporary antidote. Because of that, she often spends her nights working in Dr. Agasa's lab, leading to lethargy during the day - prompting one of Conan's nicknames for her, "evil-eyed yawny girl."
Evil-eyed might mean the bags under her eyes, but it might also be the mean looks she is capable of producing at little prompting. Ai is jaded from her time with the Black Organization, the death of her sister, and her time on the run. This prompts a lot of sarcasm and dry wit, but also, sometimes, harsh words and mean looks. She's always sure she knows best, even if it's for others, and has little to no patience dealing with people disagreeing with her. She makes sure Dr. Agasa is eating healthy, that Conan isn't abusing the temporary antidote she developed, and that the kids around her are safe. But that's just her way of showing that she cares, too, and despite everything, she does care. However, she's less demanding or "evil-eyed" when it's not something she feels strongly about, and so she lets herself get dragged along and swept into whatever plan, outing, or bad decision her friends are committing.
Another factor to her mature image is that she's simply a calm and cool person - or at least, she gives off that impression. The truth behind the matter is that she's more of a quiet person by nature. And in addition, cautious, because she has a lot of reason to display caution. But when converting these behaviors to a child's body, it does seem cool and calm. She doesn't rush in with the other children, because she's actually mindful of the dangers involved. She has to reign them in - including, sometimes, Conan.
This is especially true when it comes to Conan's dealings with the Black Organization or in keeping his identity secret from those around him. Ai's often the one cautioning him in these areas, even going so far as to plan elaborate ways for Conan to keep his secret. Her caution when it comes to the Black Organization might even be called paranoia, but it's well-warranted. She knows the Organization better than anybody, and that's why she fears them so much. This is especially noticeable when it comes to two of their agents - Gin and Vermouth. Her fear of them is overwhelming, and often overriding her more logical side.
Her mature and cool image might make her seem like a typical Ice Queen, but the truth is that if she were ever described as such, she's long since 'defrosted'. It's true that as Shiho she was definitely a loner, but as time's gone by as Ai, she's grown closer to the people around her. She considers Agasa something akin to family, and she considers Conan and the Detective Boys to be her first real friends. Even if she's bad at showing it sometimes, she has a lot of love and loyalty in her heart for her friends and family. In fact, it was her sister's death that drove her from the Black Organization in the first place. And her actions towards her new friends show them to be more valuable to her than her own life.
However, this has led to a habit of legitimately placing their lives and well-being above her own. Knowing that she's on the run from a dangerous organization, there have been numerous instances where Ai's attempted to sacrifice her own life so that her friends would be spared. Even as of recently, she hasn't broken that habit - although hopefully, after the most recent interaction with the Black Organization, they actually believe she's dead and will leave her alone.
In short, Ai's a person who tries to look like she doesn't care but actually cares a whole lot. However, she reserves that for those close to her. She doesn't trust easily outside of them, but has good reasons for that. Her paranoia has saved her life and the lives of those around her, and she's more than willing to be the voice of reason.
Key themes:
Self Sacrifice: And relatedly, when to Not Do That. But to summarize, Ai's first instinct is to protect those around her by offering up her own life. Because she knows how dangerous and how meticulous the Black Organization is, she believes self-sacrifice is the only way to save those around her. However, her dealings with others is (slowly) teaching her to value her own life more than that, and that maybe there are other ways out of the situation.
Traitor to the Organization: In conjunction with the point above, Ai's very existence is defined by her being on the run from and in hiding from the Black Organization. She hides herself, her identity, her actions, her thoughts, all in order to evade the gaze of the people she fled from. Her existence has always, to an extent, been defined by the Black Organization she worked for, but now that she's defied them, it's ironically even more so.
Family and Friends: Ai's departure from the Organization was fueled by her love for her sister, who was killed by them. Since then, her new found family has wormed their way into her heart, and it's because of them that she feels the need to sacrifice herself to keep them safe. In the end, you could say that, despite her antisocial nature, all of Ai's motivations in both the past and the present are defined by her loyalty and love to the people she cares about.
Main Motivation: Survive while making sure nobody around her is harmed for it
Skills:
De-aged: Thanks to Apotoxin-4869, Ai currently possesses the body of a child when she had originally been 18. Under certain circumstances or with another drug, it's possible to temporarily return to her original age and appearance.
Scientific Ability: Ai is an accomplished biochemist, as she's the main driving force behind the development of the Apotoxin-4869, having taken over the project from her deceased parents 5+ years ago. Because of this, she has an incredible amount of knowledge in her chosen field and those closely related to it, such as medical knowledge.
Deductive Ability: Ai is not a 'detective' like Conan or Sera. Still, she has a calm, reasoned mindset, a head for logical reasoning, a sharp observational ability, and a great deal of knowledge to call upon. This lets her often take a secondary investigative role, or come to logical conclusions on her own.
Sixth Sense: One ability that has no logical, scientific basis, and yet is observable fact, is Ai's ability to sense the "pressure" given off by members of the Black Organization. As a sort of sixth sense, she can tell when members are present, and both she and Conan have relied on this ability. Notably, it only seems to react to the Black Organization, and not simply anybody with malice or even covert operations training.
Proficiencies: Ai's displayed good or better prowess with a couple notable things, namely her ability to handle and shoot a firearm and an ability to drive (she apparently once owned a motorcycle as Shiho.)
Item: A small box with six compartments, each compartment holding a different type of drug in pill form. The most notable drug in here is a prototype antidote for Apoptoxin 4869, which can revert Conan or Ai to their true forms for approximately 24 hours, although their bodies will eventually build up immunity. The other five drugs contained in the pill box are cold medicine, sleeping pills, pain pills, antibiotics, and stimulants. The box contains approximately 30 of each pill.
Sample: Here
Notes: She goes by Ai Haibara as she is, so if her tag could be that (just like Conan's tag is Conan and not Shinichi) that'd be cool. Her nameplate and stuff like that would be Shiho Miyano since that's her true name though.
